World Economic Forum

Economists and policy leaders will be gathering at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to set the global agenda. It's going to be a busy week; topics to be covered include technological innovations, multilateral trade and the impact of climate change.

IMF World Economic Outlook

On Tuesday, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will release its updated World Economic Outlook. This is expected to detail encouraging prospects for the global economy, with particular optimism for UK recovery.

Short Selling in the EU

The EU Court of Justice will assess elements of a new law on short selling in the union on Wednesday, to decide whether they are in line with the EU treaty.

Climate and Energy

Also on Wednesday, the EU Commission will present the EU's 2030 framework for climate and energy policies.

Unemployment in the UK

New unemployment figures due this week in the UK are expected to show further signs of economic recovery. The jobless rate is thought to have fallen to 7.3% in November, edging closer to the 7% rate required to unlock an interest rate rise.
