US testifies on economic outlook: On Wednesday, US Federal Reserve chairman Janet Yellen will testify on the central bank’s outlook for the US economy before Congress’s joint economic committee. This is after last week’s data which showed a slowdown in economic growth to 0.1% in Q1 this year.






UK rates decision under Forward Guidance: The Bank of England (BoE) will make its first interest rate decision under the new rules of Forward Guidance on Thursday. Now that unemployment in the UK has fallen to 6.9%, below the target rate of 7%, the BoE is set to deliberate over whether or not to raise rates from their record low of 0.5%. Economists, however, expect no change.






ECB to start boosting economy? The European Central Bank (ECB) will also announce their latest rates decision on Thursday. After months of poor inflation, some analysts expect this to be the week that the ECB will take action to stimulate Europe’s economy.






New APP report: The Africa Progress Panel (APP) will release a new report at the World Economic Forum in Africa on Thursday, entitled Grain, Fish, Money – Financing Green and Blue revolutions. This will highlight industrial opportunities for the continent amid the world’s growing demand for food.






Chinese inflation data: China will release new inflation data on Friday. Analysts predict a slight moderation in consumer data, with producer price inflation remaining negative.
