South Africa continues mining negotiations: South Africa’s new mining minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi will continue talks with platinum companies and unions on Monday in a bid to end the sector’s five-month-long strike. Few are optimistic that an agreement will be reached.

Sovereign ratings updates in Europe: Friday will see sovereign ratings updates for several European countries. The UK will receive updates from Standard and Poor’s and Fitch, the latter also reporting on France, and Moody’s will report on Italy.

Economic data in China: China will release a slew of data this week, including May’s consumer and producer price indices on Tuesday, and industrial output and retail sales on Friday.

Bank of Japan policy meeting: The Bank of Japan will conclude its policy meeting on Friday, though no change is expected while analysts evaluate the effects of April’s consumer tax rise.

Group 77 commemorates 50 years: On Saturday, the Group 77 developing countries (G77) will meet in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, to commemorate 50 years if the block.
