Peter LevenePeter Levene

Peter, Lord Levene started his career in the UK defense industry with United Scientific Holdings. He was then appointed personal adviser to Defence Secretary Michael Heseltine in the Ministry of Defence and later permanent secretary in the role of Chief of Defence Procurement. Subsequently he held a number of government posts, as adviser to the Secretary of State for the Environment; to the President of the Board of Trade; and to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. From 1992 to 1997 he was adviser to Prime Minister John Major on efficiency and effectiveness. During this period he was also chairman and chief executive of Canary Wharf Ltd. He received a knighthood in 1989 and became a life peer in 1997. Later he became vice chairman of Deutsche Bank in the United Kingdom, having also been at Wasserstein Perella and Morgan Stanley. Lord Levene was elected chairman of Lloyd’s, the world’s leading specialist insurance and reinsurance market, in 2002. In this role, he chairs the Council of Lloyd’s and Lloyd’s Franchise Board. He is a member of the House of Lords Select Committee for Economic Affairs.
