Roger Bootle is one of the City of London’s most respected economists and now runs his own consultancy, Capital Economics. He is also economic adviser to Deloitte & Touche, a specialist adviser to the House of Commons Treasury Committee, and a visiting professor at Manchester Business School. He was formerly group chief economist of the HSBC Group and, before the change of government, a member of the former Chancellor’s panel of independent economic advisers, the so-called “wise men.” Bootle studied at Oxford University before becoming a lecturer in economics at St Anne’s College, Oxford. He has written many articles and is a regular columnist on the Sunday Telegraph. He also frequently appears on national television and radio.
