S. Erik Oppers

Deputy Chief, Global Financial Stability Division, IMF

S. Erik Oppers is deputy chief of the Global Financial Stability Division at the IMF. He leads research and writing teams that contribute to the Global Financial Stability Report, and works on a wide range of financial sector policy issues, including country financial sector assessments. In previous assignments at the IMF, he worked on Fund programs in Asia and financial sector issues and technical assistance in Africa. He earned a PhD in economics from Harvard University in 1993 and was assistant professor of economics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, before joining the IMF in 1995. He served as head of control and finance (CFO) of the Netherlands Authority for teh Financial Markets between 2003 and 2007.
