UN agency encouraging private investment in developing nations International Finance Corporation: a United Nations organization promoting private sector investment in developing countries to reduce poverty and improve the quality of people's lives. It finances private sector projects that are profit-oriented and environmentally and socially sound, and helps to foster development. The IFC has a staff of 2,000 professionals around the world who seek profitable and creative solutions to complex business issues.
