stock exchange in New York stock exchange based in New York, established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (who sold their last stock in 2001). The name NASDAQ originally stood for National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations and also referred to the computerized trading platform used. Traditionally high-technology companies listed on the NASDAQ. In 2008 it acquired OMX and formed the NASDAQ OMX group. The main indices of stocks on the exchange are the NASDAQ-100 and the NASDAQ Composite.
